Jim Moyers has served as a wildlife biologist and naturalist for The St. Joe Company since 2000 and brings 17 years of experience as a professional wildlife biologist in Florida's Great Northwest. His main professional emphasis has been threatened and endangered species, working with beach mice, red-cockaded woodpeckers, gopher tortoises and numerous protected rare plant species.
Prior to 2000, Moyers worked as a research field biologist and graduate student with the Alabama Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at Auburn University. From 1994 to 1999, he worked with Auburn University and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service documenting the status and distribution of Gulf Coast beach mouse subspecies. He documented the food habits of three Gulf Coast beach mouse subspecies as a graduate student and field technician at Auburn between 1989 and 1994.
Moyers currently serves as naturalist at JOE’s WaterColor and WaterSound Beach resorts, managing and educating homeowners and visitors about the varied natural resources protected within these developments. As an Endangered Species Wildlife Biologist, he works to manage, restore and conserve these species found within JOE developments. He serves on the Walton County Tourist Development Council’s Beach Nourishment Advisory Committee and volunteers as an educator for the Florida Cooperative Extension Service’s 4-H, Master Gardener and Master Naturalist programs.
Moyers is an alumnus of Auburn University where he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Wildlife Biology and Ecology. |
